“I don’t feel good, Mom.”
My daughter struggled all fall and winter with a chronic sore throat. She will have a tickle in her throat for a couple of days, and then it will morph into a full-blown sinus issue with excessive mucous for weeks. Granted, it’s spring now. And we are all communing with North Texas tree reproductive-ness. I’m sure that had something to do with it, but God was up to something else.
I’d been noticing a pattern. Last fall and winter, when our precious treasure had a vocal performance, she would consistently develop a sore throat about a week out. So my radar was up. It was unsurprising to me that I sensed Holy Spirit say, “She has a vocal performance coming up.” Indeed, she does. And she has a solo within the scope of the performance. It’s actually a competition. Added pressure.
She lolled on our bed and those sea green eyes pleaded at me.
“Do you want to get rid of the sore throat?”
“Let’s pray.” It was 9:30pm and my husband was really tired. We needed revelation. And quick. “Close your eyes.”
“Holy Spirit, would You reveal any open doors for this chronic sore throat?”
Immediately my daughter’s eyes popped wide open. “MOM! I think I have an inner vow! I think He just revealed an inner vow!”
“Awesome! What is it?”
“When I was in either sixth or seventh grade, I was really nervous about a voice performance. And I wished that I were sick so I wouldn’t have to sing.”
“Wow. Are you sure that’s it? What am I saying. Of course that’s it. That was the first thing that came into your mind. Do you know what to do?”
By this time my husband was pacing back and forth. She’s in his spot on the bed. He’s so tired it’s painful to be awake.
“Yep! She jumped off the bed and shimmied out of our room. “G’nite! I love you guys!” she smiled out.
The next morning, the tickle was gone.
That evening, it was still gone.
The day after that, it was still gone.
No sinus issue. No excessive mucous. Only healthy vocal chords, healthy sinuses, Breath of God, flowing through her, unobstructed.
Today is her performance. So grateful. Grateful for the precious Blood. Grateful for the precious Holy Spirit. Grateful for this adventure. So grateful she knew what to do.
