But Friends. Let me point you to Jesus, the Author and Finisher of our faith.
Let me remind you of the immense sacrifice He made for you.
He was pierced for our transgressions; he was crushed for our iniquities; upon him was the chastisement that brought us peace, and with his wounds we are healed.
And that His wounding happened in the fullness of time, 2000 years ago.
There’s another funny thing about the Bible. God’s Word tells me that I am currently seated with Jesus in the heavenly realm. Real time. Seated. Right now. (Eph 2)
And that He gave me His authority. Authority. (Matt 28:18-20, Luke 10:18-19)
And that the Kingdom of Heaven suffers violence, and the violent take it by force. (Matt 11:12)
So I know you are wondering: “For crying out loud, what does that have to do with ebola and prayer? We are freaking out over here and you are spouting Bible verses. That doesn’t make me feel any better.”
Well, let me explain. I think you will feel better really soon.
We are the ones who violently, aggressively pull down what Jesus legally bought for us with His death, burial, resurrection and ascension. We do this in prayer. We have to know Who our God is, and we have to know who we are.
Priests make repentance for the people, point the people back to God and minister to God. They also declare when people are healed (Luke 17:11-17).
These are not only principles to understand, but realities to live. Let me give you an example.
My daughter has struggled with her menstrual cycle. It typically is heavy. Really heavy. Today she felt horrible. She felt so bad I picked her up early from school. She really felt bad. She laid on the couch and just looked pitiful. Now, mostly these days when I ask her if I can pray for her, she says, “No thanks,” with an unstated subtext of “I got this, Mom.” And, I respect her choice. I pray, but not in her presence. Today was different. I asked her if she wanted to pray together. She wholeheartedly agreed, and we began. We connected our hearts to Father and asked Holy Spirit to guide us. Pretty soon, I knew how He wanted us to pray. Emma stood in, representing her ancestry. Her bloodline. And she repented (function of the priest) for generational hemorrhage during menstrual cycles. Neither of us knew how this generational hemorrhaging began, but we both knew it would continue down the generational line if no one stood up and aggressively pulled down (king) what Jesus bought. We prayed some more, brought the shalom of God to her abdomen, reproductive organs, digestive tract. Told pain it was not allowed to the party. Told fear it had no rights to bother her and had to leave immediately in the Name of Jesus. Told her flesh to line up, balance, align with the Word of God, the Kingdom Authority of Jesus. Asked Holy Spirit to take back the ground that had been given over to the enemy. Cramps subsided. Twenty minutes later, she was free. And her period became more of a normal flow. So that’s what Jesus did today. Heaven to earth. Sweet heaven to earth. Right there on the couch. Oh my Word, He is amazing!!
And then there is my son. He’s been sick since Friday night. He’s been prayed over. Many times. By many people. His fever has lessened dramatically after each prayer, but either the roots of this illness are deeper than we are reaching, or his body truly just needs more time to recover. I choose to believe that my son’s health was bought and paid for at the cross. Your health was bought and paid for at the cross. The health of your family was bought and paid for at the cross. And we live in the shadow of the Almighty.
We have definitely moved into a new realm of faith. If you are succumbing to fear, examine the roots. Pray. Repent. Ask Holy Spirit about generational fear. He will tell you. Guide you. He searches the deep things of God and reveals them to us. To us. To you (1 Corinthians 2:10). Truth sets us free. Where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty. Not sin management or issue management. True freedom.
I do highly suggest a few practical things you can do every single day.
+live in gut-wrenching, honest repentance
+pray Psalm 91 over yourself and your family daily. Live in Psalm 91
+take communion before The Lord daily
+live in communion with God
+stay sensitive to your responses to the news. If fear sets in, turn off the TV. Worship God. Out loud. Sing to Him. Fear will leave because the Presence of the Holy One inhabits your praise.
I don’t want to forget to thank Jesus. I want to be like the one who came running back and said, “Thank you,” and was made whole. So thank you, Jesus. Thank you for the healing You have already brought. Thank you. Thank you. I ask for more, Lord. More.
